Liposuction

The principle is based on the introduction of thin tubes to the inner layer subcutaneous fat, through small incisions in the skin. These tubes are hollow and have holes in their tips, which allows the fat to be sucked by the negative pressure applied. In the region of the arms the results are usually good, since the retraction of skin in this area is average. In selected patients can be an effective method of treatment.

Candidates

Patients who have excess fat in the arms without associated skin laxity.

Total duration of surgery

about 50 minutes.

Anesthesia

Local anesthesia with or without sedation performed by the anesthesiologist.

Outpatient

Soon after the procedure or after 4 hours.

Objectives

The objectives of liposuction basically consist of modifying the accumulation of fat in the treated arms becoming more beautiful and in harmony with the rest of the body. Can be used alone or in conjunction with other plastic surgery.

Incisions and technique

Incisions are often placed in difficult viewing and usually have a length of about 0.3 cm. All care will be taken so that these incisions are placed in less visible area, and become discrete lines and virtually imperceptible over time. Through a cannula with multiple holes connected to a vacuum source the accumulated fat is removed and, if necessary, is possible to put some amount of this elsewhere in the body that we want to increase.

Usually we use the aid of ultrasound machines and VibroLiposuction Machine. The choice of these elements is individualized for each patient.

Undesirable effects

Serious complication of liposuction are not common. Potential complications are basically asymmetry, dimpling, skin pigmentation and bleeding. Temporary numbness of the skin and hematoma (accumulation of blood) are possible complications. Irregularities of the skin may occur in some patients and can be treated if necessary. The infection is very rare. Local edema that usually remits within 2 months is what occurs in almost all patients.

Recovery

Compressive garment used for three days, light physical exercises can be performed 5-7 days after the procedure and heavier exercises about 3-4 weeks after surgery. Patients usually complain of tenderness to the touch on the first day, this question is subject to wide variation, since the threshold of pain can vary significantly from one person to another. If there is any greater discomfort, than the conventional medications will be sufficient to solve the problem, always with the appropriate knowledge and doctor’s prescription.
